Definition: Search engine optimization refers to the process of creating or tailoring a website to rank well in search engines and includes the text, images, code, and link structure of a website. However, this is a very broad term, and there are many types of search engine optimization, including client-side optimization and black hat optimization. “Pure” SEO is that which does not use spam, cloaking, or other methods used to deceive search engines. Pure search engine optimization is significantly more valuable, since it creates a site that is actually relevant and is not likely to be suddenly banned for using prohibited techniques such as spam.
Miscellaneous Information:  Companies that offer search engine optimization services are often referred to as SEOs or SEO companies.
