Term:
Alt Tag for Search Engine Optimization
AKA: Alternate Text, Image Identifiers
Definition: An Alt tag is a method
of programming a name that is readable by search engines
into a graphic. The Alt tag usually describes what
the graphic is. For example, if a website has a picture
of a desk on it and you don’t use an Alt tag,
a search engine won’t know what the picture
is. You can view an Alt tag by simply hanging your
mouse over the image. If a little box with text appears,
than that image has an Alt tag in it.
Miscellaneous Information: An Alt
tag is a low ranking variable, but can distinguish
one site from another and make it a little more relevant
to search engines.
